Is Your Gym Wrecking Your Fitness Plans?
Did you plan to hit the gym at least 5 times a week but ended up going only twice? Happens to most of us, doesn’t it? Turns out it may not be totally your fault you are failing. Two factors about your gym play a crucial role in how consistent you will be in your fitness regime.
These two crucial factors are: the type of gym you are attending and the location of it.
It is very hard to make a habit of going to the gym at any point of time. We humans tend to give up if a task seems to be a little too tough or inconvenient. That is why forming habits is so important so we don’t have to make a conscious decision every time we have to go the gym.
According to a report by a New York based firm Dstillery, people are more likely to go the gym if it is located nearby.
True Story. If you have to drive 5 miles to reach the gym, you will probably want to give up after the first few weeks. However, if it was nearby within walking distance or say, just 5-10 minutes driving time. If it was just more convenient, you can picture yourself getting off the couch more often. The optimum distance is said to be under 4 miles.
So, the first important factor is the location of the gym. We all need to find a gym that falls within the 4 mile radius, preferably even closer.
The second important factor is none other than the quality of the gym and the services provided there.
Is your gym giving out more classes, better trainers, flexible hours or better equipment? Does it top your list in hygiene and maintenance? Do you get perks for being a member at a certain gym? Can you get access to pre and post workout sessions, dieticians, healthy foods at your gym?
All these amenities also play a massive role in you shelling out the extra bucks and going to a gym that may be a little further away but satisfies all your needs and even more.
However, just having a gym a super close to your house or having a gym with world-class facilities won’t guarantee you will workout as often as you had planned. Most of it still depends on how motivated you are to achieve your goals. These factors only remove the minor bottlenecks. Rest is up to yours truly.
